Help

MerchantKits Recall runs a product recall from inside Shopify: find the customers who bought an affected product, notify them, track who confirmed, and keep proof of every step.

How a recall works

1
Create a recall: choose the affected products and variants, the order dates, the reason, the risk and the remedy.
2
Find customers: MerchantKits Recall searches your orders in the date range you choose and lists everyone who bought those products. You can exclude customers.
3
Preview the email in each language your customers use. If needed, change the subject and introduction per language.
4
Confirm and send: nothing is sent until you tick the confirmation. You can follow the progress while the emails go out.
5
Customers confirm: each email has a personal link to a confirmation page on your store's domain, and you see who confirmed.
6
Reminders (Starter and Pro): customers who haven't confirmed get up to two reminders, every 3 days by default.
7
Act on the product: set it to Draft, or keep it visible with a recall banner on its product page.
8
Close the recall when it's done. Products you hid can be restored.
9
Evidence (Starter and Pro): download a CSV and a PDF report with every step and its time, for authorities or insurers.

Recall banner and product safety block

Both are theme app blocks: add them in the theme editor from the app's Home page. The recall banner only appears on products with an active recall; the product safety block only on products with GPSR information. MerchantKits Recall never edits your theme code.

Recall monitor (Pro)

Every day MerchantKits Recall checks official recall notices from the EU (Safety Gate) and the US (CPSC) against your products. "Recalled — exact barcode match" means a barcode of your product appears in a notice. A "possible match" shares the brand and a model number and needs your review. You get an email right away for exact matches and at most one weekly summary for possible matches.

Product safety information (GPSR)

Add your manufacturers, EU responsible persons and warnings once, then assign them to products one by one, in bulk or by vendor. The scan shows which products are still missing information.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling MerchantKits Recall removes the product safety information and recall banners from your storefront. If you install it again within 48 hours, the app restores your manufacturers, responsible persons, warnings and product assignments; the storefront blocks may need to be added again (Home shows their status with links).

Frequently asked questions

Yes. MerchantKits Recall can read your whole order history. If you installed the app before this was added, Shopify asks you to approve the extra permission the next time you open the app; until you do, the search covers the last 60 days and the app warns you when your date range starts earlier.

An email with your store's name, the recall details and your instructions in their language, and a confirmation page on your store's domain. Replies go to your store's email address.

No recall notice is sent until you confirm it. After that, reminders go out automatically only for that recall and only on Starter or Pro.

Upgrades apply right away. After a downgrade, features your new plan doesn't include stop, but your recalls, evidence and GPSR data stay, and a recall that is being sent always finishes.

Only an exact barcode match does. A possible match shares the brand and a model number with an official notice; compare your product with the notice before you start a recall.

Uninstalling removes the product safety information and recall banners from your storefront, because Shopify deletes the app's data and theme blocks. If you install MerchantKits Recall again within 48 hours, your recalls are still there and the app restores your manufacturers, responsible persons, warnings and product assignments; add the storefront blocks again from Home if they are missing. After 48 hours Shopify asks us to delete your store's data, and we do, including the customer data of your recalls.
